Amazon (AMZN) $1050 Options Now Available — Scary But Exciting.

This is scary BUT in a good way. AMZN is up about $30 in 3 days. But it closed today at $829.05.

A $1050 option 77-days from now is saying that there are those that expect it to go up $221 dollars in 77-days — a 26.7% increase.

Yes, I know that a bunch of analysts hiked the price target to $1,000.

But the possibility of $1,050 before Christmas.

That would be quite the Christmas for some. {SMILE}

I Order A Samsung NX500 — They Are Getting Hard To Source Since Being Discontinued.

From “DPReview”. Click to ENLARGE.

Though I had been saying I was hoping to get a new camera in October, as of last week I really wanted to WAIT till I finished my latest book — another on “Brain Meditation” — before I ordered one.

But over the last few days I have been giving the Samsung NX500 some serious thought. It is the best mirrorless compact that I could get — and it is now discontinued!

I have been checking availability and last night it was getting a ‘scary’ — a bit like when I was trying to get my hands on the Nikon P900.

The Samsung NX500 only appears to be available from two places — Amazon or eBay, and in each case (even from Amazon) via unknown S. Korean distributors. Amazon, at one point last night, was saying that there was currently only one in stock. I did not want to take the risk.

And given Amazon’s 30-day return window I can’t put it aside till I finish the book. Yes, a slight dilemma, but as they say a nice problem to deal with.

First time I will have had two cameras since Saturday, April 9, 2016 — that would have been 179 days ago (~6 months)!

It would be good to have two cameras because I do like to alternate. Plus the Nikon P900 really is too big to take to restaurants, waiting rooms etc. and I like to have a camera with me most times.

So you have been warned. Unless I hate it day 1, or it is defective, and as such I am forced to return it, there is likely to be lots of Samsung NX500 pictures that will be on show soon.

Just happened to notice it. Hence, the steep $70 markdown as was also the case in August.

Not sure what the deal is. All I know is that this is EXACTLY the same problem I encountered towards the end of August 2016. Hence why I had to buy my (now beloved P900) from Best Buy.

The books did not interest me. I like the feel of real books.

But was willing to try the magazines. Was hoping to get some camera/photography ones. Only one available: “Shutterbug”. But I downloaded 5 magazines for free: Cosmo (which I have always enjoyed reading since way back in the 1970s), the photography one, “Popular Mechanics“, “Consumer Reports” & a car magazine. For “FREE” not bad.

Stock shot up $10 on the news. Now at an all time high!

$99 for a 40-150mm zoom is pretty attractive even if it is but a ‘middle-of-the-road’ lens.

Interesting move my Olympus. Yep, this could sway some to seriously think about the OM-D E-M1 Mk II.

I have no Olympus (or for that matter any Four-Thirds) lenses. This would be a great start.

Antioxidants For Eye Health — In Particular The Retina.

0

by Anura Guruge

To be honest I am not really sure whether all this recent talk about ‘vitamins’, supplements and antioxidants for eye health has any real basis or whether it is just another ploy by the pharmaceutical industry to get us to spend money on things we don’t need.

However, I have enough problems with my eyes and I am desperate to retain the vision I have for as long as possible — knowing full well that down the road I will end up with some level of serious impairment.

So when my new eye doctor, Eugene Baylus, of ‘Capital Vision Center’, Concord, NH, tells me that I should take ‘eye vitamins’ I don’t have the luxury of ignoring him. I don’t want to give him the opportunity to say, “told ya to take care of your eyes”.

So for the last 3 months I have been taking these. Yes, I did some research. These are supposed to be the VITAL ‘stuff’ I must ingest. Here is the link to the Amazon listing.

Think – Today: Do Trees Grow From The Bottom Or From The Top?

0

by Anura Guruge

thinktodaybanner
Easy question, right? Just talking about height. Where does the height of a tree come from, the bottom or the top. Yes, the root system continues to expand and the trunk gets bigger, each year — which is why we get those ‘rings’ that can tell the age of a tree. But, what about getting taller?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’Name of the ‘Amazon’ river. The second Spanish explorer who set out to navigate the river, c. 1550, was viciously attacked by native warriors — most of whom were women. So he named the river ‘Amazon’ after Greek mythological race of women warriors. Neat?

Shock HORROR II! I Returned My Samsung NX500.

0
0

by Anura Guruge

Shock HORROR I” was on July 27, 2016 when I decided I was not going to get the Fuji X-T2, because of autofocus concerns, after I had spent months believing that it was the bespoke, dream-camera for me.

This is as such is the second “Shock HORROR“. There were times, days on end when I was absolutely in love/awe with my Samsung NX500. I sang its praises. Marveled at it. I even thought about getting a second body as a backup.

THEN …

On Sunday, October 30, 2016 it all unravelled. A confluence of fast moving events and the timing could not have been worse in terms of that day. I had ordered the Samsung NX500, from Amazon, on October 1, 2016. So my 30-day window for a ‘hassle free’ return was fast closing. I had to make up my mind that day itself. Actually that night, just before midnight. AND I PULLED THE TRIGGER.

There were 4.5 factors. Four of them had cropped up that fateful Sunday. The two pictures below, taken that day, 8 hours a part will explain two of my prime reasons.

Click pictures to ENLARGE.

The 4.5 Reasons Why I Returned My Samsung NX500
after 26-days of use.

1. The very nice organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel on the NX500, when using manual focus with peaking, makes you believe an image is in perfect focus when it is NOT! First picture. I spent a few minutes focusing this to perfection, manually, on the OLED. I thought it was going to be incredible. Then I got the above. [Now, you know I nail focus most of the time. So it isn’t that I don’t know how to focus.] Basically the OLED ‘paints’ an inaccurate picture of focus. Makes it look better than it is.

2. There is no digital zoom capability, whatsoever. We went to the ‘Indigo Girls‘ concert, in Concord, that evening. My Nikon P900, though it would have been ideal, was too big for a venue like that. The 50mm zoom just didn’t cut it.

3. Second picture. It is difficult to shoot concerts at the best of times. With the 50mm there was ZERO definition on the faces! There was nothing that I could extract even using software. That was frustrating.

4. It happened during the concert and it had happened before. I would random error messages. They would go away if I played around. At the concert, in addition to getting two error messages, the display went HAYWIRE for a few second. That scared me. Had had this happen on another Samsung in December 2014. Didn’t want a repetition.

So those were the 4 BIG reasons.

Discountinued camera. Not sure what the warranty would be like. Amazon return window was closing. I had to submit the return — or run the danger of getting stuck with this camera. It wasn’t a super expensive camera but I would rather not lose money on it. So this is why I scrambled like crazy. after getting home from the concert, and seeing the picture quality, to file the return.

And then there was an auxillary consideration in the back of my mind.

IF (and it is still an ‘if’) I get a Sony a6500 I would NOT need a compact camera — and I had bought the Samsung NX500, 5-days ahead of the Sony a6500 announcement, to be my compact camera — alongside a ‘big’ APS-C camera (not counting the Nikon P900).

The Sony a6500 with a 16-50 zoom or a 50mm prime is a compact camera.

So that is what happened. That is why you haven’t seen any Samsung NX500 pictures since October 30. I took 1,337 pictures with that camera in 26-days. 51 a day.

Mark Twain is erroneously credited as having once written: “Sorry this letter is so long. If I had more time I would have made it shorter”.

Well that was the sentiment behind this book. As I was finishing my first “Brain Meditation” book, in September 2016, I KNEW that I had made it too long and too detailed. I knew I had to do a “Quick Guide”.

So I did. Took me 2-weeks longer than I expected. But, now it is done. It was published yesterday, as an eBook (that can be read ANYWHERE), on Amazon. Now I have to work on the paperback.

Goal was to keep it pithy — as much as I could.

So I used lots of ‘bullet points’ and short paragraphs.

Amazon offers a FREE ‘Look Inside’. Take a look.

This was my 26th published book.

Yes, given that I spend most of my online presence here, most people don’t realize, or care, that I do have a Website: guruge.com.

Actually, I have two: guruge.com & wownh.com — the latter being the basis for my wownh.com e-mail that I have had for 15 years.

True, I don’t update these websites that often. Mainly when I publish a new book. Well that is what I did today to reflect the latest: “Quick Guide To Brain Meditation“.

This was so cute.
Also had a camera bag thrown in.

Appears to be brand new.
Looked immaculate and I had to set date/time.

Plus, first picture was DSC00001.

So I am happy.

I can’t stop smiling.

This was a STEAL!

This is what it is being sold on Amazon right now.

a6000new
I got it for $699!

Refer to this post.

Already customized to my liking and needs.

I don’t like neck straps. I am into wrist straps ($7.99).

Also got a leather half-body for protection and added grip ($15.99).

Clip on ‘other side’ allows me to clip on a lanyard-type strap if I need to carry it around my neck.

See below.

“Shave Secret” Shaving Oil, Much To My Amazement & Delight, REALLY Works!

shavesecret

Click to access Amazon listing.

Though I have been doing it, assiduously, for 50-years, shaving is something I really, really, really detest.

Believe it or not, despite all that shaving, I still have very sensitive skin on my face. I get razor burn and my skin itches like crazy after each shave — though I use aftershave, talc and liberal amounts of vigorous face slapping (to stimulate the circulation).

Over the 50-year period I have tried anything and everything that I can lay my hands on to help me minimize the torture of shaving. Nothing has really worked.

Then a few months ago, I saw this little bottle, with the words “Shave Secret” on it, in Walmart in the razor section. It wasn’t expensive. Under $5. I bought it. What did I have to lose?

I tried it. Wow. Sure made a difference. Was noticeable. My skin was much less irritated. The itching much less.

I have now been using it for a about 2.5 months. It is the only shaving aid I use. The Nivea shaving foam containers have gone unused.

Last week I ordered two bottles from Amazon.

I now use slightly more than what they recommend, i.e., 6 – 7 drops as opposed to 5. I also massage some drops into the skin after I finish.

Not sure what is in it. Suspect that there is some Vitamin E in there.

Whatever it is … IT WORKS.

It is impressive. I think ladies will find this of interest on multiple fronts.

Not expensive either. A bottle will easily last you 6 weeks.

So give it a try. I recommend it, highly — with no reservations.

Sorry To Say That Amazon’s “Prime Photos” Is Not Ready For Prime Time — By A Long Chalk.

by Anura Guruge

primephoto

If you read this blog on a regular basis you will know that I am HUGE fan and customer of Amazon. I, in addition to also publishing most of my recent books through Amazon, happen to be a very happy Amazon shareholder. There is not a day that goes by when Amazon is not a part of my life.

Thus it genuinely grieves me to inform you that ‘Amazon Prime Photos’, at present SUCKS.

It is quite PATHETIC.

What is the main problem. It does NOT have the capacity to handle the load. Basically it is having trouble coping with the user load — especially with Amazon also coping with Black Friday/Cyber Monday traffic.

Hopefully down the road Amazon will fix this. They just need to increase capacity.

‘Amazon Prime Photos’ appears to be based on Snapfish.

Right now it is real difficult to upload photos! Not funny.

I have managed, over 2 days, with MULTIPLE retries to load 3,602 photos. It is so slow and error-prone.

Get A Refund When Amazon Fails To Deliver On Its Prime Two-Day Shipping Promise.

Let’s just say that I have received $37 back from Amazon, in the last 12 days, for it missing three (3) shipment dates.

I keep assiduous track of all my Amazon shipments and track the packages. IF the package is not delivered, per the promised day — typically because of a USPS screw-up — I call up Amazon at 8:15pm, on the day, and ask for a refund. And they always oblige.

So, stay on top of this. It can be a nice little added discount. {SMILE}.

Selling Off Amazon Shares On Cyber Monday Is Incredibly STUPID — Just Herd Mentality!

From “MarketWatch” — use link above to access chart if you need to. Otherwise: marketwatch.com

Betting against Amazon post-Black Friday and during what is really ‘Cyber Week’, rather than just Cyber Monday, is PLAIN STUPID.

You know, and I know, that Amazon is making out like a bandit.

Others might do well, but in the end Amazon would still have done better.

Why bet against Amazon (AMZN) to YOUR detriment.

Today’s 1.9% drop should be a buying opportunity.

Amazon will go past $800 before the year is out AND ahead of the Fed’s, inevitable (spite Trump), December rate increase.

This is not the time to sell. Wait for it t0 get to $800+ — then sell JUST ahead of the December Federal Reserve meeting December 13 – 14, 2016.

But for now … BUY, BUY, BUY AMZN.

Full disclosure: I own AMZN and I am very long.

WARNING: Amazon’s “Prime Photos” Can & Will Lose Photos! I Lost 192 Yesterday.

Do NOT use Amazon’s “Prime Photos” IF you
do NOT want randomly lose photos!

I lost 192 photos yesterday.

Dangerous.

Be AWARE.

You have now been WARNED.

primephotoiii

Yesterday I told you, categorically, that Amazon’s “Prime Photos” was not ready for Prime Time.

That was before I discovered that Amazon had JUST LOST 192 pictures that I had uploaded and even put into two albums.

And that is the really SCARY part.

It allowed me to create two albums using the uploaded pictures.

I, of course, checked the albums when they were created.

Had the right number of pictures and the pictures were there.

Four hours later when I was going through the albums again Amazon said that these two albums were EMPTY — no photos.

That is unacceptable.

Luckily I had not deleted my original photos on my PC.

This is SCARY.

I have stopped using Amazon “Prime Photos”.

Be Aware.

Be very AFRAID.

Stay clear.

Avoid.

And I am an Amazon shareholder. So, I really do want Amazon to do well. I live off my Amazon shares! So when I say don’t use it you should take notice. {SMILE}
